Designers -- Melissa White's Collections

Melissa White

Melissa White is a decorative artist living on the Sussex coast of England where she established her business Fairlyte Decoration in 2001. She hand paints interiors, fabric and fresco secco with her own designs as well as patterns from historic sources.

For 15 years she has been researching and reproducing rare Elizabethan wall paintings found in Tudor houses across Britain. From supplying large painted cloths for Shakespeare's Birthplace Museum she and her team have gone on to paint walls, textiles and frescoes for many other historic houses and private clients.

Born of a fascination for the aged, worn, cracked and faded surfaces of historic houses, Melissa's artwork is recognisable by the unique way she distresses it to give the appearance of salvaged fragments and rescued remnants; remembrance of things past.

As she embarks on a new journey producing patterns for print she says: "I can't wait to indulge in creating new designs; putting a single design into several colourways is really exciting and I have many ideas inspired by Japanese textiles and woodblock prints, Scandinavian decor, Art Nouveau colours, sculptural forms in nature and so much more."
